The aim of Coláiste Cill Chartha is to instill a love of the Irish Language in its students.

Gaeilge is one of the oldest languages in the world. There are over 6,000 languages spoken in the world and it is expected that only 10% of these will survive by the end of this century. We are depending on our young students to pass on our language to future generations.

Is í an Ghaeilge ceann de na teangacha is sine sa domhain. Tá thar 6,000 teanga á labhairt sa domhan í láthair na huaire agus táthar ag tuar nach mbeidh fágtha ach 10% ag deireadh an chéid seo. Tá muid ag brath ar an aos óg ar dteanga a thabhairt do na glúnta atá le teacht.

Cill Chartha (Kilcar) is situated in South West Donegal between Na Cealla Beaga (Killybegs) and Gleann Cholm Cille (Glencolumbkille). It is an area of outstanding beauty with two beautiful beaches. Facilities also include Áislann Cill Chartha whih has a large sports hall, computer suite, gym and cinema. Also, Cill Chartha has two Gaelic football pitches with modern changing rooms.

Cad mile fáilte for students from outside Ireland who wish to learn Gaeilge. Please come and have fun, games song and dance while learning the language. Groups are welcome!!

Health / Sláinte

Information on any health irregularities must accompany the application form, along with medical card number or health insurance. All medical fees are the responsibility of the parent/guardian. Should a student become ill and be unable to attend class, the college nurse will be informed. A doctor will be available where necessary. A student with medical problems must have a doctor’s letter.

Cuirfear fios ar an dochtúir más gá Caithfidh scoláire a bhfuil fadhb sláinte aige/aici litir dochtúra a thabhairt do’n choláiste Seolfar Rialacha na Coláiste agus liosta de na rudaí atá de dhith chuig gach scoláire nuair a dhíolann siad an táille.

In order that students derive full benefit from their stay in the Gaeltacht, they must speak Irish at all times, among themselves and with the local people.

Hence, we apply the following rule:

THE STUDENTS MUST SPEAK IRISH AT ALL TIMES ACCORDING TO CAPABILITY.

Student Accommodation/Lóistín

Students will stay in guest houses which are approved by the Department of Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs and where Irish is the family language at all times.

These houses are inspected twice each year by Department inspectors and a teacher will visit each house on a nightly curfew basis. Mná tí are Garda vetted and have a Fetac Level 5 cookery certificate. The Mná tí look after their students with pride.

Most of the students are brought to and from the college by bus for added safety.

All students are requested to bring the following items:

·         Towels

·         Shampoo and Shower Gel

·         Runners and Rainwear

·         Roll on Deodorant only

Fanann na páistí í dtithe ina labhartar Gaeilge mar príomh theanga. Scrúdaionn cigire on Roinn Gnóthaí Poail, Comhionnanais agus Gaeltachta na tithe seo dhá uair sa bhlian agus tugann múinteoir cuairt ar gach teach ag am codlata gach oíche. Tá teastas cócaireachta Fetac 5 ag gach bean tí agus teastas ó na Gardaí. Tugann siad sár chúram dó na scoláirí.
